This program is conceptualized like a study abroad program for administrative purposes. This new Tier Two Program has been piloted with two SUNY campuses in 2013, and in 2014 will be launched for participation by other SUNY campuses, as well as interested institutions in the U.S. or abroad.

Collaboration may occur synchronously (in real time) or asynchronous (not in real time) and students may connect via email, voice, video, or in some combination. The hosts and supporting institutions each bring with them many years of experience developing, teaching, and researching Virtual Exchange. Students can then choose to explore the issues through a particular lens, which could be disciplinary, topical or geographical. SUNY Campuses and Coordinators; Global Partner Network. COIL is working on a new structure for the Network to be unveiled in 2014 which will include multiple tiers of membership, including a range of support services participating campuses can contract with COIL to provide. Through a network infrastructure, COIL works to nurture stronger working relationships both between and amongst these campuses and COIL. Program flow. The Intercultural Storytelling course will start with foundational concepts of storytelling. By enrolling as a study abroad/study away program, students can work with their advisors or departments to determine the pathways through the program content that could allow them to petition for major credit (for example, Special Topics in X). Such programs foster faculty and student interaction with peers abroad through co-taught multicultural online and blended learning environments emphasizing experiential student collaboration.

Hosted by the University of Washington Bothell and Tacoma campuses and supported by the State University of New York (SUNY) COIL Center, DePaul University, UNICollaboration, Drexel University, and East Carolina University, the International Virtual Exchange Conference is the premier event in this growing field.
A COIL experience allows students to collaborate beyond the constraints of time and space, as well as interact with individuals from other cultures while remaining on campus. The specific lenses associated with each SDG will be determined in late May. Selected partner organizations have a defined need that can be met through projects during the program. Participating in a COIL class provides students with experiences sought after by employers as well as transfer colleges and universities.
